Governor Kevin Stitt has signed a sweeping executive order directing Oklahoma agencies to eliminate public funding for individuals or organizations connected to abortion providers.
The directive follows the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, which upheld a state’s authority to determine which providers may participate in its Medicaid programs.
“Oklahoma is a pro-life state, and our policies should reflect that at every level of our government,” Stitt said. “We won’t allow tax dollars to indirectly subsidize and flow into the abortion industry under the guise of women’s health. My order makes sure every public dollar aligns with our values and supports providers who respect life at every stage.”
The order tasks the Oklahoma Health Care Authority with reviewing and revising SoonerCare provider standards to ensure alignment with the state’s pro-life policies. It requires the termination and non-renewal of contracts with any provider involved in abortion-related services, including referrals and affiliations. All SoonerCare providers must now disclose any such connections through a signed statement.
Additionally, the order bars all state agencies from issuing grants or contracts to abortion-affiliated organizations, directly or indirectly. The Health Care Authority must initiate rulemaking within 60 days, complete implementation within 120 days, and deliver a compliance report to the Governor within 150 days.
