Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond is calling for the removal of Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) appointees over what he says are unlawful diversity, equity and inclusion policies.
In a letter to Governor Kevin Stitt, Drummond urged him to replace the board members responsible for practices that discriminate against white, Asian, Pacific Islander, and heterosexual applicants.
“As Attorney General, I will not tolerate Oklahomans being subjected to discrimination of any kind, especially by officials entrusted with stewarding taxpayer dollars,” Drummond wrote.
The issue is at the center of a federal lawsuit alleging OHFA violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment and federal civil rights law.
According to Drummond, OHFA criteria listed on its website gave minority and LGBTQ+ applicants higher income thresholds for assistance than white and heterosexual applicants.
In a separate letter to OHFA Board Chair Michael Buhl, Drummond demanded the agency end the practices and update its website to reflect that race and sexual orientation are no longer factors in awarding funds.
