Mike Waters Launches Campaign for Oklahoma House District 35

Mike Waters, a former Pawnee County Sheriff, rancher, and veteran advocate, has announced his candidacy for Oklahoma House District 35.

“For more than 25 years, I’ve worn the badge and stood watch over our communities,” Waters said. “Now, I’m stepping up to serve in the State House so we can ensure Oklahoma families remain safe, strong, and free.”

Waters pointed to his record in law enforcement, leading major investigations and working with other agencies to secure convictions. He said public safety would be his top priority, pledging to back law enforcement and push for tougher penalties on violent offenders.

Raised on a cattle ranch, Waters said he will also be a voice for Oklahoma farmers and ranchers, calling agriculture the backbone of the state’s economy. He emphasized support for veterans and pledged to fight for expanded services and healthcare access. On education, Waters said he would defend parents’ rights and work to strengthen local schools.

Waters announced endorsements from several area law enforcement leaders, including:

Joe Harper, Payne County Sheriff

Shawn Price, Pawnee County Sheriff

Bart Perrier, Osage County Sheriff

Matt McGuire, Noble County Sheriff

Chief Stout, Cleveland Police Department

Chief Underwood, Hominy Police Department

Chief Keeling, Pawnee Police Department

“The support I’ve received from fellow law enforcement professionals means the world to me,” Waters said. “Together, we’ve stood shoulder to shoulder to protect our citizens. Now, I’m ready to take that fight to the State Capitol.”

The House District 35 seat is being vacated by Representative Ty Burns, who recently pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of domestic abuse and assault. He is leaving office and seeking treatment.
