Hefner, Kelley to Host Disability Listening Session Saturday

Oklahoma Representatives Ellyn Hefner and Mike Kelley will host a public listening session Saturday to hear from Oklahomans with disabilities, their families, caregivers, advocates and service providers.

The Disability in Oklahoma Listening Session is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 11, at the Bethany Library, 6700 N.W. 35th St. in Bethany.

Hefner said the event is intended to give members of the disability community an opportunity to share their experiences with lawmakers and state agency representatives.

“As changes continue to affect our disability community, it’s important that those directly impacted have the opportunity to be heard,” Hefner said. “Rep. Kelley and I have invited legislators and state agency representatives to listen, learn, and better understand the challenges and opportunities facing Oklahomans with disabilities.”

Kelley encouraged people with disabilities, family members, caregivers, advocates and providers to attend.

“Whether you’re a person with a disability, a family member, caregiver, advocate, or provider, I hope you’ll join us,” Kelley said. “Your experiences and ideas will help shape the conversations we’re having at the Capitol and strengthen our work to ensure every Oklahoman has the opportunity to thrive.”

Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by emailing Ellyn.Hefner@okhouse.gov.
