A new Sooner Survey shows Republicans holding a significant advantage over Democrats in Oklahoma heading into the November general election.
The survey found 55% of voters would support a Republican candidate in a generic state legislative race, compared with 35% who would support a Democrat. The 20-point Republican advantage is the largest measured by Sooner Survey since 2014.
The results show a sharp divide between Oklahoma’s metropolitan and rural areas. Republicans and Democrats are essentially tied across the six counties making up the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metro areas, 45% to 46%. In the state’s 71 other counties, Republicans lead 66% to 23%.
The survey also found Republicans with sizable leads in several statewide races already set for November, including lieutenant governor and attorney general.
The Sooner Survey was conducted Aug. 3-6 among 500 registered Oklahoma voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.
