El Reno native Matt Von Tungeln, a Republican, announced his candidacy for House District 60 on Tuesday.
A graduate of El Reno High School, Von Tungeln received his Bachelor’s Degree in Ag-Business from Oklahoma State University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma. Von Tungeln has worked at Bass Law Firm since 2013. He and his wife Kristina attend Heaston Community Church in El Reno.
Von Tungeln’s family has lived and worked in House District 60 for over 100 years, and he considers it an honor to represent the place he calls home.
“I take great pride in my roots,” said Von Tungeln. “House District 60 represents various industries that make a significant contribution to our state’s economy. From rural Oklahoma to the metro areas, the next 3-6 years will be pivotal in ensuring that House District 60, and Oklahoma as a state, continues to grow and thrive.”
Von Tungeln said he looks forward to meeting voters on the campaign trail and hearing first-hand their vision for moving Oklahoma forward. The issues he feels will be discussed most are Oklahoma’s infrastructure, economy, and education system—all of which he says contribute to the overall strength of our state.
“Improving our education system is of the utmost importance as it will improve the quality of our workforce and increase our ability to attract new employers. Improving our state infrastructure is vital to creating the environment to allow our economy to thrive. And lastly, diversifying our economy will stabilize our future. The energy industry is one of our greatest assets, which we need to continue to embrace and support, but we need to diversify our economy so that we are more prepared to handle times of depressed commodity prices in the future.”
VonTunglen added that the growth of House District 60 stems from the hard work and determination of its citizens.
“The commitment to creating a strong Oklahoma for the next generation runs deep in our district. And for that I am grateful.”
