As Governor Kevin Stitt prepares to give his annual State of the State speech on February 3, he is renewing his call for a personal income tax cut and to gradually eliminate income tax. He held a news conference on Wednesday to discuss various issues with the media.
His plan is to ask the Legislature to pass a half a percentage point tax cut during this session and set a course to eliminate the income tax altogether.
When asked, Stitt also explained how deportations of illegal aliens from Oklahoma prisons are being examined and what actions the Governor might have to take to release the inmates to federal authorities.
The Governor also said he is looking forward to working with the new legislative leadership. This is the first session for both House Speaker Kyle Hilbert and Senate President Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton to weld the gavel in their chambers.
