Governor Kevin Stitt is praising a federal judge’s decision to keep Senate Bill 613 in tact. That’s the bill which bans sex change services to people under the age of 18 years old. The Legislature passed the ban during this year’s regular session.
“I am pleased with the court’s decision to uphold Oklahoma’s common sense law protecting children from dangerous, permanent sex change surgeries. Here in Oklahoma, we protect our kids. Plain and simple,” said Stitt.
When it was discovered some procedures and therapies for sex transitional services were being performed on youth at OU Health, the Legislature tied ARPA funding to the ban of the practice. Stitt encouraged the Legislature to pass a ban on the procedures.
The decision to uphold the law was made by U.S. District Judge John Heil, III in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma in Tulsa.
