Governor Kevin Stitt announced that Oklahoma Tax Commissioner Mark Wood has transitioned to serve as director of the Office of Management and Enterprise Services, with Dan LaFortune appointed to fill the vacancy at the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
Wood moves into the OMES role effective immediately after serving as a commissioner since November 2021, including as chairman of the commission. Governor Stitt said Wood’s leadership and tax expertise strengthened operations at the agency and will continue to benefit state government in his new position.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to have served with the dedicated team at the Oklahoma Tax Commission,” Wood said. “As I step into this role at OMES, I’m honored to continue serving Oklahoma by helping strengthen government at its core.”
Wood brings more than 37 years of experience in public accounting, including leadership roles at Arthur Andersen and Ernst and Young, where he worked on complex federal and state tax matters, mergers, and organizational restructuring. He holds degrees in accountancy and economics from the University of Oklahoma.
LaFortune joins the Oklahoma Tax Commission with nearly 31 years of experience at the Internal Revenue Service. Most recently, he served as a program manager in the IRS Large Business and International Division, overseeing large corporate and flow through entity audits across several states, including Oklahoma.
“It is an honor to bring my decades of tax administration experience to the taxpayers of Oklahoma,” LaFortune said. “I appreciate Governor Stitt’s confidence in my ability to serve the stakeholders with fairness and equity.”
Governor Stitt said LaFortune’s appointment will support the commission’s modernization efforts and help ensure continued accountability and transparency for Oklahoma taxpayers.
