Muscogee Nation Files Lawsuit Against Enforcement of State Hunting, Fishing Laws

The Muscogee Nation has joined the fray between tribal nations and Governor Kevin Stitt concerning the enforcement of state hunting and fishing laws on tribal members while they are on tribal reservations.

The Oklahoman’s Dale Denwalt writes the lawsuit was filed in federal court this week, asking for a preliminary injunction to block the enforcement of hunting and fishing laws on tribal members.

The Muscogee Nation’s lawsuit includes letters from two tribal citizens who shared their recent experiences after Stitt ordered the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation to begin ticketing tribal members. He also appointed a special prosecutor because Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond sided with the tribes.

The Cherokee, Choctaw, and Chickasaw Nations previously filed a federal lawsuit for the same reason.
