Republican Governor Primary Poll Shows Drummond Leading With Tight Race For Second

A new Sooner Survey by Cole, Hargrave, Snodgrass and Associates, of Oklahoma Republican primary voters shows Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond leading the field in the race for governor, with a close contest forming behind him.

According to the poll, Drummond is the choice of 36 percent of Republican primary voters, a level described as largely unchanged from previous measurements.

Three candidates are clustered in a statistical tie for second place. Former House Speaker Charles McCall is at 14 percent, while Mike Mazzei and Chip Keating each register 13 percent support.

Former State Senator Jake Merrick trails the group with 5 percent support.

The survey indicates more than 80 percent of Republican primary voters have already selected or are leaning toward a candidate.

The report notes Drummond continues to perform slightly better among the most frequent primary voters, reaching 38 percent among those who have participated in at least three of the past five primaries.

Polling was conducted January 26 through January 30 among 600 Republican primary voters in Oklahoma. The survey reports a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percent.
