The campaign of Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond says it raised more than $1 million in the first 48 hours after the Republican primary election, signaling what campaign officials describe as strong momentum heading into the runoff.
According to the campaign, it currently has $505,000 cash on hand and more than $500,000 in pledged contributions expected to be collected in the coming days.
The fundraising announcement follows a primary campaign in which Drummond’s team says it raised more than $4.7 million, outperforming the combined fundraising totals of his Republican opponents.
“The outpouring of support we are receiving from Oklahomans is truly inspiring,” Drummond said.
“Voters are ready for strong, principled leadership that puts Oklahoma first. They want a governor with the courage to make tough decisions, the conviction to stand by those decisions, and the integrity to always tell them the truth.”
Drummond advanced to the Republican runoff election and will face former State Senator Mike Mazzei.
Campaign Chairman Matt Parker said the fundraising totals demonstrate that Republican voters are uniting behind Drummond’s candidacy ahead of the runoff election.
“In just 48 hours, more than a million dollars has poured into this campaign because Oklahomans understand what is at stake,” Parker said.
Parker also criticized Mazzei’s campaign spending, noting that Mazzei has invested millions of dollars of his own money into the race. Parker argued that Drummond’s support is being driven by individual donors and grassroots supporters across the state.
The Republican runoff election is scheduled for August 25. The winner will advance to the general election for governor.
