Congressman Tom Cole voted in favor of a federal spending bill that funds the U.S. Department of State and national security programs for fiscal year 2027.
The U.S. House approved H.R. 8595, the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, by a 217-209 vote. All five members of Oklahoma’s U.S. House delegation voted in favor of the measure. The bill now moves to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
Cole said the legislation supports President Donald Trump’s foreign policy priorities while strengthening national security and reducing federal spending.
“True leadership isn’t merely declared – it is upheld through the choices we make, the priorities we fund, and the resolve we show in putting America first and protecting our national interests,” Cole said.
The legislation includes funding and policy provisions aimed at combating fentanyl trafficking, supporting Israel, providing military assistance to Taiwan and the Philippines, restricting U.S.-backed resources from benefiting the Chinese Communist Party, prohibiting funding for the Taliban and maintaining long-standing pro-life protections.
The bill also includes provisions to prohibit funding for diversity, equity and inclusion programs, certain climate-related initiatives and gender ideology programs, while requiring only official U.S. flags to be displayed at American embassies and consulates.
