Lankford Questions Intelligence Nominee on Iran, Agency Oversight

U.S. Senator James Lankford questioned President Donald Trump’s nominee for Director of National Intelligence during a Senate Intelligence Committee confirmation hearing, focusing on threats from Iran, terrorist financing and the structure of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Lankford asked nominee Jay Clayton how his experience prosecuting terrorism, espionage, money laundering and organized crime cases in the Southern District of New York would shape his approach to leading the nation’s intelligence community.

Clayton said the intelligence community’s role is to provide policymakers with accurate intelligence and analysis rather than make policy decisions. He said his experience as a consumer of intelligence would help him deliver information in a way that best serves decision-makers.
