Justice Taylor Administers Oath To Rep. McDaniel

Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Steven Taylor swore in the newest member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives today.

State Rep. Curtis McDaniel thanked House District 1 voters for trusting him to represent them in the Legislature.

“It is a great honor to represent the constituents of House District 1,” said McDaniel (D-Smithville). “My goal is to ensure adequate funding of services that Oklahomans rely on and to work to improve our state. I look forward to getting to know my House colleagues and participating in the review and scrutiny of legislation working its way through the legislative process.”

House Democratic Leader Scott Inman welcomed McDaniel to the Legislature.

“I am honored to welcome Representative McDaniel to our caucus,” said Inman (D-Del City). “I have no doubt that he will be an effective, competent and compassionate voice on behalf of the people of McCurtain County. Also, as a seasoned educator, Representative McDaniel’s experience and input will prove valuable to our caucus as we continue the fight to protect public education for all of Oklahoma’s children.”

McDaniel, 60, is a principal at Smithville High School and now plans to retire. A longtime educator, he also served as a vocational agriculture instructor at Oney, Helena-Gotry, Smithville and Newcastle school districts.

A graduate of Oklahoma State University, McDaniel has a bachelor’s degree in agriculture education.  He also holds a Master’s in Administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

McDaniel is a recipient of the State Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree, Honorary Chapter Farmer Degrees from four different chapters, is an Oklahoma State University President’s Council Scholarship winner, and an Elder at Panther Creek Christian Church.
