Russell Names Steve Moffitt Chief Of Staff

Congressman Steve Russell said today that Steve Moffitt will be his new Chief of Staff.  His outgoing Chief of Staff, Dean Fisher, was selected by Kansas State University to be the Associate Director of Enrollment Management.

“While both thrilled at his success and saddened by the departure of my good friend Dean Fisher, who will achieve great heights at Kansas State, we could not have hoped to have more experienced leadership taking on the new position.  Steve’s broad experience with former Senator Don Nickles, his areas of expertise and focus on defense, foreign policy, technology, and trade issues fit perfectly with ensuring a strong voice for Oklahoma in Washington, DC.”

Background:

Steve Moffitt has an impressive resume, having worked as a Legislative Assistant and then as a Legislative Director, first working two years for Congressman Jim Saxton, and then he spent nearly ten years working for Senator Don Nickles. While on Senator Nickles’ staff, he was able to use the experience and knowledge he gained while working at the 1991 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission to successfully remove Tinker Air Force Base from the Department of Defense’s (DOD) proposed list for base realignment in 1995.

Arriving just before the start of the second Iraq War, Mr. Moffitt went to work for the DOD, serving as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Senate Affairs, where he was a liaison between the DOD and the U.S. Senate. Steve most recently was a Partner at Capstone National Partners.

Also of note, Moffitt enjoys his role as a member of the Northern Virginia Football Officials Association which supplies officials for high school and youth football games in Northern Virginia.  He has lived all over the country, but was raised in California, and graduated from Brigham Young University.
