A new poll finds that among Oklahoma’s certified K-12 teachers, 47.6% are voting for Donald Trump while only 29.7 percent support Hillary Clinton.
Contrary to the myth that teachers are a bastion of liberalism, pollster Bill Shapard of SoonerPoll reports that teachers largely mirror the rest of Oklahoma’s electorate in partisan affiliation and in attitudes on national politics.
But on state issues, the group clearly is concerned about education.
The teachers overwhelmingly (or 83.3%) support the sales tax increase for teacher pay raises and college and career tech funding.
Shapard’s poll shows that state School Superintendent Joy Hofmeister remains popular among the group while Governor Mary Fallin has a 78.8% unfavorable rating with only a 14.4% favorable ratio.
