Several Nomination Races Head to August Runoff Election

The Oklahoma primaries only pared down many of the statewide nomination races, instead of setting the field for the November general election.

For the Republicans, August 28 is the decision day for the party’s nominees in the governor, lieutenant governor, state auditor and inspector, attorney general, superintendent of public instruction, commissioner of labor, and corporation commissioner.

The Libertarians will have their first runoff race since being re-recognized as a political party in Oklahoma. Chris Powell and Rex Lawhorn will face each other in the August election.

For the Democrats, all nominees in the statewide elected races were set Tuesday night, except for Corporation Commissioner. Ashley Nicole McCray and Blake Cummings will face off for that nomination spot.
