Mulready Focuses on Insurance Commission General Election as Fellow Republicans in Statewide Races Enter Runoffs

The only statewide Republican nomination race decided during Tuesday’s primary election was Insurance Commissioner as Rep. Glen Mulready defeated Donald Chasteen with nearly 55 percent of the vote.

He’s now turning his focus to the general election in November when he’ll face Democrat Kimberly Fobbs. The race failed to attract a Libertarian or Independent candidate.

“Voters sent a clear message last night that experience matters and that my vision to bring more choice and protection for consumers is needed at the Oklahoma Insurance Department,” said Mulready. “Congratulations to my opponent on a hard-fought race. I am truly honored to be the Republican nominee and am eager to begin working toward the general election. Insurance should not be a partisan issue. I want to work for all Oklahomans so they can have more options and more access to all types of insurance.”

The winner of the general election will replace current Insurance Commissioner John Doak who is term-limited.

Of the eight statewide office nomination races for the Republican Party, seven are going to run offs. Mulready is the only Republican to draw a single opponent in a GOP nomination for statewide office.
