House Panel Examines Teacher Shortage

The House Common Education Committee held an interim study Wednesday focused on the teacher shortage in Oklahoma and what can be done to put more certified teachers in the classroom. Tulsa World’s Barbara Hoberock writes while pay raises aim to increase the numbers, other factors are contributing to the shortage.

    Pay increases tied to the number of years in the profession, without consideration of whether the teacher is good, bad or mediocre, is one reason the good ones are leaving. And when the good ones leave, who’s left? Just asking. . .
