As Continuing Resolution Passes Senate, Inhofe’s Concern for Military Funding Grows

The U.S. Senate passed a continuing resolution (CR) to keep the federal government running until November 21, 2019. The temporary measure was necessary because Congress failed to pass the annual slate of appropriations bills to fund government before the new fiscal year begins on October 1.

It means National Defense Authorization Act has been held up to fund the military.

It has U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe, who serves as Senate Armed Services Committee Chair, concerned about military readiness.

“The Pentagon started the fiscal year under at least a three-month CR nine of the last 10 years,” Inhofe said. “However, it has never operated under a CR for a full year. When Congress continues to choose putting a band aid on the situation rather than finding a long-term solution, it is our troops who suffer. Although I am glad we have avoided a shutdown, this temporary fix was completely avoidable. We need legislation that provides certainty and long-term funding for our military, and we need to make that a reality in the coming weeks.”
