Lucas Joins Effort to Develop Critical Mineral Supply

Congressman Frank Lucas has joined forces with Congressman Paul Gosar and Congressman Michael Waltz to introduce legislation that would develop American resources of critical minerals. The American Critical Minerals Exploration and Innovation Act is meant to reduce the U.S. dependence on importing minerals used to create our modern way of life, like cell phones and other battery based technologies.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), 14 of 35 critical materials are imported to the U.S. at a rate of 100%. Meaning that there is no “home” supply of these minerals being developed.

“Critical minerals power technologies ranging from cell phones to medical equipment to renewable energy storage. China holds an overwhelming advantage in access to critical minerals and the COVID-19 pandemic has made it dangerously clear that we can’t take our supply for granted. We need to be forward-thinking about how we develop our resources and manage our access to critical minerals. I’m proud to join my colleagues on this bill which not only helps secure our supply of critical minerals, but also accelerates research into critical minerals development and technologies” said Lucas.

Congressman Kevin Hern has signed on as a co-sponsor to the American Critical Minerals Exploration and Innovation Act, as well.
