Yes on 805 Campaign Ready to Turn in Petition Signatures

Earlier this week, the Oklahoma Supreme Court decided that the Secretary of State’s Office must count signatures collected on an initiative petition, despite the Secretary of State Michael Rogers having suspended signature gathering as a part of the pandemic response.

Supporters of Yes on 805, a sentencing reform initiative, are planning to turn over their 260,000 petition signatures on Monday to begin the official count. If there are enough valid voter signatures, the measure would go through a challenge period. Once that period is over, the Secretary of State will request the Governor set an election date of the State Question.

Other initiative petitions have been in the works but also suspended activities as the COVID-19 virus entered Oklahoma.
