Stitt Loses Gaming Compact Decision in Federal Court

U.S. District Judge Timothy DeGiusti agreed with the tribes’ contention that gaming compacts negotiated with the State of Oklahoma and approved in 2004 have automatically renewed for another 15 year term. Governor Kevin Stitt believed they expired at the end of the 2019 and wanted to renegotiate the terms so the state could get a higher percentage on exclusivity fees.

Tulsa World’s Randy Krehbiel writes Stitt believes this decision along with the recent McGirt decision by the U.S. Supreme Court forces Oklahoma to face a question of constitutional proportions.
