Legislature Could Consider Alternative Tax to Fund Roads

A recent legislative hearing covered the bases on the future funding of roads and bridges in Oklahoma. Most of the money comes from motor fuel taxes, but the rise in electric vehicles and a drop in fossil fuel consumption could mean funding will come up short to maintain the infrastructure safely.

Tulsa World’s Randy Krehbiel says lawmakers could consider an alternative tax source, such as a levy on miles driven, instead of capturing funding at the fuel pump.
