AG Letter Indicates Stitt’s Use of GEER Money for Private Schools Meets Requirements

A legal analysis by a deputy general counsel to Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter indicates Governor Kevin Stitt was within his authority to issue $10 million of the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund for students going to private schools. The funds were provided through a Congressional COVID-19 relief package. Oklahoma House Democrats requested an opinion from the Attorney General’s Office in September.

Tulsa World’s Barbara Hoberock writes the letter, which is not an official AG Opinion, says the use of the funds likely meets federal standards.

You gotta love it! The Blob just can’t stand the thought of kids who aren’t in the PubEd system getting some financial assistance to go to – gasp! – private schools. And the AG’s office says “too bad!”

House Democrats are of the opinion that students who go to a school other than a public school aren’t students at all! And by golly, we, the Democrats are going to punish them for going to a school other than public schools. We’ll show them! You want federal goodies, kids? Better stay in a government school.

Glad the AG’s office put that pathetic argument out of its misery.
