Mullin: Actions Speak Louder Than Words

By Congressman Markwayne Mullin

During his inaugural address, President Joe Biden told Americans, “On this January day, my whole soul is in this: Bringing America together. Uniting our people. And uniting our nation. I ask every American to join me in this cause.” Unfortunately, his actions have spoken much louder than his words.

Despite campaign promises of unity, the reality of the Biden presidency has been an outright rejection of bipartisanship in the name of advancing a far-left agenda.

Look no further than the leader of the socialist “squad,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who praised President Biden this week for “exceeding” progressive expectations in his first 100 days in office. When the most radical Member of Congress gives President Biden’s agenda two-thumbs up, that says all you need to know about the reality of President Biden’s empty campaign promises.

Nearly every policy action under the Biden Administration has made us less safe, deeply divided our nation, and dissolved the American people’s trust in our institutions. The $90 trillion-dollar Green New Deal will not bring unity. Killing 11,000 jobs by canceling the Keystone Pipeline will not bring unity. Keeping kids out of school to appease the teacher’s unions will not bring unity.

From COVID-19 relief and energy policy to infrastructure and education, there are many things both sides agree on. At every turn, the Biden Administration and Democrats in Congress have chosen the “my way or the highway” approach.

Tonight, President Biden will give his first address to Congress and I anticipate we’ll hear more about his goals of unity. Promising unity is a nice idea, but producing unity requires action. Will President Biden actually follow through on his promises with his actions? I sure hope so.
