Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. Delicious food aside, it is a time to come together with family and loved ones to give thanks. Whether you spend your Thanksgiving around the kitchen table, watching football, or spending time outside, I hope you get the chance to slow down and enjoy the holiday.
As I reflect on all I am thankful for this year, I can’t help but think of the American lives devastated by the failed Afghanistan withdrawal and those who are unable to spend the holidays at home with their family.
The Biden Administration made a promise to the American people. Our Commander-in-Chief made a promise he would bring our troops and allies home. Unfortunately, we found this to be untrue. They said everyone who wanted out could have gotten out. His administration touted this withdrawal as a success when it was anything but, and nowhere near over. My team continues to work around the clock as the public watches glimpses of the truth finally come to light. While we are doing all we can, it is still not enough.
As we think of those still stranded in Afghanistan and trying to get home, I want to take a moment to honor the ones who will never have that chance. To the 13 heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice and to their loved ones who are experiencing their first holiday season without them – their brave service will never be forgotten. Because of President Biden’s failure, there are 13 more families with an empty seat at their Thanksgiving table this year. May God be near to these families and their loved ones.
I ask you to keep all of those affected by this disastrous withdrawal in your thoughts and to say a prayer for their families if you can. I will certainly be holding my loved ones closer this year.
And through all of this, I am thankful we are a God-fearing nation. In times of crisis, our country has always turned to the Lord and prayed for strength, guidance and healing. Even with the challenges our country faces, we should be grateful we live in the greatest country in the world and for the freedoms we have. We must remember that what divides us as a country will never outweigh what unites us.
