FBI Director Wray Asks Congress to Increase Staff, Funding in OK Due to McGirt Caseload

FBI Director Christopher Wray is asking congress to add 76 new positions to the Oklahoma City FBI field office to help with an increase in felony cases due to the U.S. Supreme Court’s McGirt v. Oklahoma decision. It changed criminal jurisdiction within Indian reservations which had not been disestablished in Oklahoma, giving tribal nations and the federal government the responsibility to investigate and prosecute criminal cases.

The Oklahoman’s Chris Casteel writes Wray and other federal agency leaders are asking for increased funding to handle the workload created by the McGirt decision.

Congress is holding hearings as they begin to consider what goes into the next federal government budget.
