Stephens Files Bill to Stop Time Change in Oklahoma

Senator Blake “Cowboy” Stephens filed a bill ahead of the next session to keep Oklahoma in Daylight Saving Time (DST) year-round, if Congress passes the Sunshine Protection Act. Stephens says Senate Bill 7 would act as a trigger if Congress does manage to pass the legislation.

“I could go on and on about why it is beneficial to remain in DST,” Stephens said. “Just one example is Oklahoma having one of the highest rates of childhood obesity, which could be combatted with having an extra hour of daylight in the evening for exercise and outdoor activities. This is a common-sense bill that would help us in our efforts to become a healthier state.”

Stephens has carried similar legislation in the past.

The 59th Oklahoma Legislature will convene February 6, 2023.
