Voters Decide Recreational Marijuana State Question on Tuesday

Oklahoma voters will go to the polls on Tuesday for a single issue; whether or not to allow for adult use cannabis, also called recreational marijuana. State Question 820 is the only thing on the ballot for the March 7 special election.

If approved, dispensaries would be opened up to anyone 21 years-old and older with valid identification. Recreational marijuana would be taxed at the higher rate of 15-percent.

The medical marijuana program would continue to exist. Patients with a valid state medical marijuana card would be taxed at the current seven-percent rate.

If SQ 820 passes, the state would have 90 days to set up the program. Additionally, it would make Oklahoma the 22nd state to make adult use marijuana legal.
