Religious Anti-Discrimination Bill Heads to Governor’s Desk

Senate Bill 404 eliminates the exclusion of religious organizations from receiving state funds simply on the basis that the organization has a religious background. Several House members on both sides of the aisle believe this is a mechanism to enable religious charter schools to receive state funds, but it passed the House on Tuesday 64 to 27.

Tulsa World’s Randy Krehbiel writes the bill’s authors have said the Oklahoma City Catholic Archdiocese was involved in helping to construct the measure.

SB 404 House author, Representative Jon Echols contends that an organization could be turned down for state funding on other reasons besides religion.

It now heads to Governor Kevin Stitt for his consideration.
