Stitt Reoffers Tribal Tobacco Compact Deal

Governor Kevin Stitt has reached out to a handful of Oklahoma tribes to offer his extension of the tobacco tribal compacts which are expiring this year. This is ahead of a possible override of his veto of Senate Bill 26x which extended the compacts as is for another year.

The first attempt failed on Monday, but Senate President Pro Tem Greg Treat said that another attempt will be coming when more Senators are available for the vote.

Tulsa World’s Randy Krehbiel writes Stitt’s deal has more specific language concerning the tribes’ taxing jurisdictions. His fear is that the tribes will try to extend their authority beyond tribal trust lands.
