Drummond Steps in to Represent Oklahoma in Tribal Gaming Lawsuit

Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond submitted a notice of appearance in a federal lawsuit over tribal gaming stemming from compacts signed by Governor Kevin Stitt and four tribes. The Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled those compacts were invalid because Stitt did not have the authority to enter into them.

Stitt submitted the compacts to the U.S. Department of Interior despite the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruling. That spurred the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Citizen Potawatomi nations to file the federal suit against Stitt, the Department of Interior, and the four tribes.

Tulsa World’s Randy Krehbiel writes Drummond is asking the federal court to recognize him as Oklahoma’s legal representative in the case, instead of Stitt and the private lawyers he hired.
