Lucas Supports Delisting of Lesser Prairie Chickens from Threatened Species List

The U.S. House passed a resolution on Thursday to delist the lesser prairie chicken from the threatened species list with the support of Congressman Frank Lucas. He contends that the way the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service created distinct population segments with different protections also created unnecessary burdens on Oklahoma farmers and ranchers.

“Oklahomans are proud conservationists and great stewards of our land. We recognize that sustainable, healthy land serves as the lifeblood of our rural communities. However, listing the Lesser Prairie Chicken as a threatened species creates unnecessary burdens on our ability to not only provide for ourselves, but the entire world,” said Lucas. “S.J. Res. 9 ensures these onerous and needless regulations do not infringe on our daily lives.”

All five members of Oklahoma’s delegation voted for S.J. Res. 9.

Lucas delivered remarks on the resolution during the discussion on the House Floor. You can view those remarks below.
