Tulsa Public Schools Retains Accreditation with Deficiencies

The Oklahoma State Board of Education gave its approval of Tulsa Public Schools accreditation with deficiencies during its Thursday meeting. This comes in the wake of Tulsa Superintendent Deborah Gist stepping down.

While the State Board Members and Tulsa Board Members engaged in a conversation of how to improve the financial oversight and the academic performance of the district, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters called for drastic changes within months and not years.

The Oklahoman’s Jessie Christopher Smith writes Tulsa Public Schools will be required to provide monthly in-person updates on the district’s progress.
