The Oklahoma House Democrats are requesting a bipartisan special committee be formed to investigate State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters. It would be the start of a possible impeachment proceeding.
Tulsa World’s Barbara Hoberock writes House Speaker Charles McCall said that impeachment is not something that should be taken lightly. He added that the House Democrats call for impeachment seems to be more of a “ready, fire, aim” approach.
The Democrats pointed to Walters’ inflammatory language, an investigation into the alleged mishandling of GEER funds, and a lack of cooperation with lawmakers as reasons to create the committee.
