Lankford Pushes Limits to Foreign Purchases of U.S. Farmland

Using the sudden rise of illegal marijuana grow operations in Oklahoma, U.S. Senator James Lankford spent time in committee rooms encouraging the passage of his Security and Oversight of International Landholdings (SOIL) Act. That legislation would increase the federal oversight of land purchases by entities from outside the United States.

Lankford speaks about how several Chinese criminal organizations have set up shop in Oklahoma using the state’s medial marijuana program as cover. He also raises concern about the Chinese purchasing farm land near military installations.

You can watch Lankford’s testimony before the U.S. Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, as well as his interaction with a witness panel during the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence below.
