As part of his declaring November Oklahoma Family Month, Governor Kevin Stitt declared November 28th as Native American Family Day. Stitt and other officials held events with native families at the Governor’s Manion on Tuesday.
“I declared November as Family Month to encourage Oklahomans to seek out family time, and to me, it just makes sense to highlight the unique Native American perspective of what it means to be a family,” said Stitt. “Families are the foundation of society, and I’m honored to be in a position where I can support societal functions that are beneficial to Oklahomans.”
The Governor’s Manion event held activities such as hatchet throwing, stickball, and eating Indian tacos.
“Oklahoma is beyond blessed to have a Governor willing to speak out for family values, especially for Native American families,” said Oklahoma Native American Liaison Wes Nofire. “It means so much to our community to gain a sense of togetherness and collaboration. Providing recognition to our families, our people, reassures me that our state is headed in the right direction.”
