Thompson’s Child Abduction Response Team Bill Moves to Full Senate

Senator Roger Thompson’s Senate Bill 1407 authorizing the formation of child abduction response teams passed the Senate Appropriations Committee on Wednesday.

SB 1407 would require law enforcement agencies to notify the response team within four hours if a child abduction report is verified. Automatic license plate readers would be used during the search for the child.

The bill also appropriates $300,000 to hire a state coordinator to oversee the response teams.

“Time is of the essence when a child is abducted,” Thompson said. “This bill will help law enforcement entities at all levels of government develop a quick and effective response to get a missing child home safely.”
