Sharp Announces Senate District 17 Candidacy

As the filing period approaches later this week, former State Senator Ron Sharp is returning to the political scene. He’s declared a candidacy to reclaim the Senate District 17 seat.

Sharp was a major critic of EPIC Charter School alleging financial misconduct while he was in office. However, Sharp lost in the Republican primary run-off election in August 2020 to current District 17 Senator Shane Jett.

Sharp says he has been vindicated by the EPIC founders being charged with embezzlement and racketeering.

“I must run in 2024 for the State Senate and show current and future elected officials to go after corruption without fear wherever it is, or how deeply embedded it appears to be- you can beat the corruption by taking a stand. You can recover from the negatives ads circulated to destroy one’s integrity.”

“Seeing what happened to me in June-August 2020, if I fail to win it would seem doubtful any legislator would ever again take the risk that I did going after corruption in Oklahoma”, stated Sharp in his candidacy announcement.
