Oklahoma U.S. Reps. React to Biden Border Executive Order

Members of Oklahoma’s Congressional Delegation reacted to President Joe Biden’s executive order addressing the border crisis.

Basically, the action by the President means non-citizens who are trying to cross between ports of entry will be turned away or returned to their country of origin when the seven day average of border crossing is 2,500 or more. The average has been above that figure for awhile, so the executive order goes into effect immediately.

Color Oklahoma’s Congressional members unimpressed according to the statements they released after Biden announced the executive order on Tuesday.

Congressman Kevin Hern:

“Today’s Executive action is an abject failure. When President Biden took office, he immediately dismantled the Trump administration’s successful border policies and halted construction of the border wall, leaving billions of dollars in construction materials lying on the ground along our border.

“The Biden administration has encouraged and presided over the largest national security and humanitarian catastrophe at our southern border in American history. Biden’s DHS Secretary was rightfully impeached for ‘willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law’ and ‘breach of the public trust.’ Rather than simply allowing Border Patrol and ICE to enforce the law, the Biden administration is putting forth a policy that specifically allows for thousands of daily illegal crossings before they take action to purportedly restrict asylum.

“The American people are smart, they know an arsonist is not interested in putting out the fire they started.”

Congresswoman Stephanie Bice:

“After more than 9.6 million illegal immigrants entered the country under his watch and just months before the 2024 election, Biden has finally decided to act. Since taking office, President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas have taken more than 64 actions to weaken border security and encourage illegal immigration. This politically minded executive order is too little, too late. If the President were serious about border security, he would call on Senator Schumer to take up H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, which passed the House over a year ago. This legislation is a comprehensive plan which has two fundamental goals: to secure the border and combat illegal immigration.”

Congressman Josh Brecheen:

“Do not be deceived by this smokescreen for Democrats concerned about their prospects this November. This executive order will still allow thousands of illegals to cross our border daily, fails to end mass parole or catch-and-release, does not reimplement the successful Remain in Mexico policy, and fails to deport the millions of aliens who are already here illegally. The American people are too smart to fall for this desperate act of political theater.”
