Stitt, Drummond at Odds Over Mental Health Class Action Lawsuit Settlement

Governor Kevin Stitt convened the Contingency Review Board on Wednesday to vote on sending a letter to a federal judge saying the state has concerns about a possible settlement of a class action lawsuit against the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS).

The lawsuit alleges ODMHSAS is violating due process rights of defendants who are in county jails awaiting restorative therapies after being declared unfit to stand trial.

Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond is working on the settlement.

Oklahoma Voice’s Barbara Hoberock writes Drummond skipped the Contingency Review Board meeting because no consent decree has been approved in the case.

The Contingency Review Board is convened to approve legal settlements when the Legislature is out of session.
