Americans for Fair Energy Prices commissioned a poll which found the majority of Oklahomans in the survey wanted to see more competition on how electric transmission lines are built in the state.
At question is legislation which deals with “Right of First Refusal” or ROFR. This legislation generally gives utilities in Oklahoma the right to build the major transmission lines from places which electric generation occurs to various service areas.
Those who are against ROFR would rather see competitive bidding for transmission line projects which may include out-of-state contractors.
The poll was conducted by the firm, TargetPoint Consulting. It found 82% of voters polled believe legislators should fight to reduce costs during times of inflation, 80% believe ROFR legislation would give Oklahoma’s utility companies more power and want legislators to act in the interests of citizens, and 77% believe ROFR policies could drive up prices.
