A letter from Oklahoma Mental Health Commissioner Allie Friesen has spurred Governor Kevin Stitt to call for an audit of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
The Oklahoman’s Murray Evans writes that Friesen told Stitt in the letter that her staff “has uncovered serious concerns regarding the allocation of State appropriated funds within the behavioral health program of the State Medicaid program.”
Shortly after Stitt announced his request for an audit, House Speaker Kyle Hilbert and Senate President Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton are engaging the Legislative Office of Fiscal Transparency to also investigate.
It is likely that the Legislature will have to provide supplemental appropriation to help alleviate some of the financial issues within the Department.
