Oklahoma Auditor and Inspector Cindy Byrd released “part one” of an audit she is performing on the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. The agency has come up short funding its payroll through the rest of the fiscal year. At the same time, legislative inquiries and investigations have discovered financial mismanagement through multiple administrations for the agency.
The Oklahoman’s Alexia Aston writes Byrd’s nine-page report was critical of the department’s leadership and addressed some of the short-term needs of the agency.
The Legislature is expected to provide a supplemental appropriation so that the Mental Health Department can make it through the fiscal year which ends June 30.
