Stitt Appoints Chesbro as Tulsa County Associate District Judge

Governor Kevin Stitt has appointed Matthew Todd Chesbro as Associate District Judge for Tulsa County.

Chesbro, a native of Stillwater, has built his career as a prosecutor and judge. Most recently, he has served as a Special Judge for the Tulsa County District Court after being appointed in January 2024. Before that, he spent nearly 15 years as an Assistant District Attorney in both Tulsa and Rogers counties.

“Judge Chesbro is a no-nonsense, law-and-order judge who will bring justice in Tulsa County,” Stitt said. “He’s spent years putting violent criminals behind bars because he understands the law, respects victims, and won’t tolerate chaos in our communities. I’m confident he will uphold the rule of law and make Tulsa safer.”

Chesbro said he is honored by the governor’s decision. “I’m honored to serve the people of Tulsa County and am grateful for the trust Governor Stitt has placed in me,” he said. “I will approach the role with fairness, integrity, and respect for the law.”

Beyond his legal career, he was a three-time NCAA All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State University, the 1992 NCAA runner-up, and a member of two NCAA national championship teams. In 2013, he was honored by the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as an Outstanding American.

Chesbro earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University in 1992 and his law degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1996.
