Humphrey Calls for Grand Jury Probe of Judicial System

Oklahoma Representative Justin Humphrey is urging Attorney General Gentner Drummond to convene a multi-county grand jury to investigate the state’s judicial system.

In a letter to the attorney general, Humphrey pointed to a recent 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling involving the 2019 death of Jeffrey Krueger after an arrest in Wagoner County. The court determined deputies were not entitled to qualified immunity and that the lower court’s account of the facts was incomplete.

“Being a former law enforcement officer myself, I am generally going to be on the side of law enforcement,” Humphrey said. “But this case deserves much greater scrutiny.”

Humphrey also cited the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s recent public reprimand of Special Judge Emily Mueller, who was found to have violated the state’s Judicial Code of Conduct by acting in a biased and undignified manner.

“Based on the revelations revealed in these current reviews of our Oklahoma judicial system, I feel that you no longer can avoid calling a multi-county grand jury,” Humphrey wrote. “I encourage you to act swiftly.”
