The Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Cherokee tribes are suing Governor Kevin Stitt over the enforcement of state laws concerning hunting and fishing licenses. Stitt has ordered game wardens to enforce Oklahoma’s law requiring a hunting or fishing license anywhere in the state. The tribes contend that their sovereign rights supersede state law.
The Oklahoman’s Alexia Aston writes the that the tribes filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma on Tuesday.
