Governor Kevin Stitt has appointed Amy Blackburn as the new Director of the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department. Sterling Zearley, who has been serving as executive director, will remain with the agency in an advisory role to assist with the transition.
Blackburn, a lifelong Oklahoman, has more than 20 years of experience in marketing, operations, and strategic leadership. Governor Stitt praised her qualifications, noting her previous work promoting Oklahoma nationally and internationally as well as managing complex projects.
“Amy Blackburn has significant experience in promoting Oklahoma across the country and around the world,” said Governor Stitt. “She has spent her career partnering with businesses and communities and managing complex projects. It makes her an exceptional person to lead Tourism as we approach the Route 66 Centennial, the celebration of America’s 250th birthday, the LA28 Olympics, and the potential to host teams for the FIFA World Cup.”
Blackburn previously served as Division Director of Marketing and Communications at the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, where she oversaw branding efforts and improvements to the state’s travel information centers. She also hosted hundreds of business leaders during the 2022 PGA Championship.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department,” said Blackburn. “I look forward to growing our state’s economy by highlighting all that our beautiful parks, communities, and attractions have to offer visitors from here at home and across the country.”
The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department manages state parks, lodges, and golf courses, promotes tourism, supports historic and community events, and provides guidance to state and local leaders on tourism and recreation matters.
